Daryl Capuano

Chief Executive Officer

Nationally known education expert Daryl Capuano founded The Learning Consultants to improve student performance and inspire young adults to reach their full potential.  Daryl has become widely known in Connecticut as the go to person for families sorting out college and career issues, parents seeking to motivate their children, and students striving to improve their test scores.
Recently named to Who’s Who In America and the author of two critically acclaimed and best-selling books, Motivate Your Son and Career Path of Abundance, Daryl has been featured in local and national media for his ground breaking programs that help students succeed.
Daryl graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Georgetown University, where he graduated number one in his concentration and was named the Outstanding Student in his department. Daryl simultaneously earned two graduate degrees: a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was named to Who’s Who in American Law Students, and a master’s degree from Penn’s Fels Center of Government. Daryl also earned a prestigious Equal Justice Foundation Fellowship, for which he served at The Brookings Institute, the nation’s top think tank. After Penn Law, Daryl was appointed an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia where he worked on high profile homicide appeals. Thereafter, Daryl moved to Washington, DC and served the United States as an enforcement attorney with the Securities and Exchange Commission where he led the investigation into one of the largest financial frauds in history. After serving as an associate with one of the nation’s largest law firms, Daryl became Vice-President and General Counsel for Mindgrow, an A&E television-funded new media-education company.

In order to pursue his interest in education and to focus directly on helping students reach their potential, Daryl founded The Learning Consultants in 2000 which has grown into Connecticut’s largest private educational consultancy.

In addition to running The Learning Consultants, Daryl is a professor of Constitutional Law as well as several other college courses related to law and government.  Daryl also oversees subsidiaries of The Learning Consultants including Career Counseling Connecticut, Career Path of Abundance, and Legal Writing Mastery.

Daryl is a featured speaker on educational issues on a local and national level.

Jean Card - The Learning Consultants

Jean Card

Director of Student Mastery

Jean counsels and tutors students in a variety of areas and spearheads the Student Mastery Program in the Shoreline, CT, area.

Jean has extensive experience interacting with families and students through her years as a clinical therapist and social worker. Her experience includes counseling youths with ADD, depression and other issues that affect performance. Jean received her MSW from Boston College and her B.A. from Colby College.

Blending her social work and education backgrounds, Jean has led the test prep and tutoring programs for the Learning Consultants at The Grove School in Madison, CT, as well as the student orientation and Student Mastery Program at The Williams School in New London, CT

For the past 5 years, Jean has taught the ACT course at Franklin Academy in East Haddam.  Franklin Academy serves students with Nonverbal Learning Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders and Asperger’s Syndrome.  Jean brings her expertise with learning differences to the community at Franklin where she consults with staff regarding student accommodations and students regarding the approaches to the test they should take based on their learning profile.

Jean has given presentations across the Shoreline, CT, area in a variety of areas including Student Mastery, test prep, and general student motivation.

Jean recently has presented at the College Fair in Madison, CT, and to the Guidance Office at Daniel Hand High School in Madison, CT.  Jean lives with husband and three sons in Madison, Connecticut.

Paul Borgese

Chief Adivsor of Educational Programming

Paul brings an international background to his work as the chief designer for educational programming at The Learning Consultants.

Paul attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated magna cum laude in both finance (The Wharton School) and English.

Paul also holds master’s degrees from Cambridge University in England, where he was a British Marshall Scholar, the University of Pennsylvania Fels School, and the New York University Business School. He has lectured and written books, articles and white papers on a wide range of educational topics.

Kathleen Brigham - Director of Fairfield and New York

Kathleen graduated from Middlebury College and went on to complete a Masters Educational Administration at Columbia Teacher’s College.

She worked as an admissions director for grades K-8 at the Dwight School in New York City and during that time taught art history and grammar classes.Kathleen then moved to London, where she started tutoring at the American School in London in St. Johns Wood. Wanting to have more of a background in special education, she completed the Beve Hornsby Diploma in Learning Differences that taught the Alpha to Omega program.

During her time in London, Kathleen also co-founded School Choice International, an education consulting company that counseled families looking for schools both in the London and Tri-State area. She also taught ESL to foreign business executives and homeschooled children of actors who were abroad for stints of time.

Jesse Brockwell - Director of Middlesex County

Now widely considered the best math tutor in the Shoreline, Connecticut area, Jesse was almost not hired when he applied as a 22 year old (10 years ago).  But several trusted advisors called and said things like “he was the smartest guy who ever went through The Country School during my time there” and “there is no one I know who relates to teens as well as Jesse” since he was tutoring in the Old Lyme school system.

Jesse has received even higher accolades throughout his decade of tutoring and teaching full time. Students from Old Saybrook, Lyme-Old Lyme, and Valley Regional High Schools revere him.  Parents and guidance counselors who are “in the know” from other Shoreline, CT high schools call to grab every one of his available hours. His excellence was recently awarded with his appointment to Director of Middlesex County.  Jesse has successfully run Lyme-Old Lyme’s SAT program and Old Saybrook High School’s SAT program.  Jesse resides in East Lyme, Connecticut.
Galen Cawley is the Director New Haven County, CT
Galen receives rave reviews for his work with our students. He has been tutoring for us for the last several years and has become so popular that our own staff fights over his time for their children. His capacity to explain high level material in easy to understand manner is remarkable. After graduating Harvard with honors, Galen went to Wall Street and eventually opened his own investment fund.   On the side, he was involved in numerous teaching volunteer activities.  After leaving the Boston area due to his wife’s position at Yale, he relocated to Madison and contacted us about creating an educational non-profit.  We convinced him to teach for us instead and he’s been an extraordinary find for our clients.

Dr. Dan Hartman is a medical doctor who has a passion and calling for teaching. He tutored test prep for different companies in the Boston area and then we were lucky enough to have him contact us a few years ago.  He runs various test prep classes for us and tutors in all math and sciences.  His clients love him. His good nature and patience as well as his outstanding communication abilities has made him a great favorite – which is why he is usually booked.

Dr. Kristina Knobelsdorff has led The Learning Consultants’ Reading and Writing Programs for the last 5 years. After completing her doctorate in English Literature, Kristina was a college writing instructor prior to joining The Learning Consultants. She has received rave reviews for her work with our students.

Donna Brewer, Esq. After practicing law for more than 20 years, Donna joined The Learning Consultants due to her desire to teach and tutor.  A published author on SAT prep grammar and the lead instructor at Southeastern Connecticut Chinese School’s test prep classes run by The Learning Consultants, Donna is considered one of Southeastern, CT’s top verbal tutors.
