College Counseling Connecticut: Advantages of Early Decision and SAT Prep

By General Education Advice

A while ago, I started a subsidiary: College Counseling Connecticut.

Then college counseling became such a core pat of The Learning Consultants that I blended the two companies.  The former allowed for deep research into how to help students gain admission. This facet has remained a core component of our help.

See the latest edition of Forbes.

Great discussion regarding two areas that we have preached throughout the pandemic and going forward:

Early Decision provides enormous advantages to college applicants.  Since most anyone – but particularly 17 year olds – do not want to make commitments earlier than needed, we urge all our college counseling clients to start planning vigorously in junior year so that they are ready to make the “Early Decision decision” in November.

As for SAT Prep, we tell our clients privately but have more muted publicly because of what could understandably be viewed as self-serving interest that the SAT remains a big weapon in both college admissions and scholarship acquisition.  The good part – you don’t have to use it – the bad part – this is misleading or at least confusing. Undoubtedly, those who have good test scores are at an advantage.  So dig in… prep vigorously.  If the scores don’t match schools of interest, then don’t use the score.  But you should do everything possible to ensure the highest score possible.  It can only help.

The other trends: Southern schools are getting more popular and thus harder to gain admission to and business/engineering/nursing schools are growing ever more popular and competitive.

The clear cut career focused paths require earlier thought than ever regarding career counseling.  The other subsidiary that is still distinct in this regard Career Counseling Connecticut.

Parents of high school juniors: Have a happy holiday season and then get ready for college kickoff at the start of 2025.
