Connecticut summers are wonderful.
So is college for high school juniors and seniors. Very soon.
After years of test-optional policies, many colleges are reinstating the SAT requirement.
Reasons for Reinstatement
- Standardized Metric: Provides a uniform way to compare applicants from diverse backgrounds.
- Predictive Validity: Studies suggest SAT scores can predict college success.
- Grade Inflation: Rising high school GPAs make it difficult to differentiate candidates.
SAT Benefits for Students
- Demonstrate Readiness: Opportunity to showcase academic skills.
- Scholarship Eligibility: Some scholarships require SAT scores.
- Identify Areas for Improvement: Highlights academic strengths and weaknesses.
Addressing Concerns
- Accessibility: Fee waivers and test center access are available.
- Test Prep Resources: Numerous free and paid resources exist.
- Holistic Review: SAT is one factor among many in admissions.
