Your children need outside mentors
By Daryl CapuanoGeneral Education Advice“You are like an Uncle to Gus.”
I used to be more like an older brother but I understood. I am the only other elder who guides Gus – and many others – outside their parents.
We do not live in a village. I’m not sure if the tropes about town elders, which often included the new suspect (so unfortunate) troop leaders, religious figures, and athletic coaches, guiding teens, were overstated. I do know that most teens have no one outside their parents that they can talk to about life.
“You are like his therapist.” I hear this a lot as well. It may be that I am working with students on SAT prep or college counseling, but in those couple-minute spaces before the work at hand begins, we often address issues that affect the student.
In an age when virtual coaching, online platforms, and remote instruction dominate much of educational consulting, in‑person mentorship remains a vital differentiator. For The Learning Consultants, face‑to‑face mentoring is not a novelty — it’s been integral to our mission since day one. Personal presence, direct connection, and shared time have given us unique advantages in helping students navigate the complex journey from academic ambition to purposeful career direction.
We will help your children with whatever practical educational needs they have but they will also get something more valuable in the process.
