College Counseling: High School Juniors… time to start
By Daryl CapuanoGeneral Education Advice“The year disappears quickly…” so begins another college counseling session with parents in our area as they wonder if they should start college counseling.
College visits are a vital part of the college selection process. Unfortunately, colleges run on the same calendar as high schools. Visiting during winter or summer break is not optimal. Without the students, the value of the visit – while not a waste of time – is significantly compromised. There are only a few sweet spots – long weekends where college visits do not conflict with school. Then the year… ‘disappears.”
Choosing a college is one of the most significant decisions a student and family will make. The process can feel overwhelming—essays, applications, standardized tests, financial aid, interviews, and the pressure of choosing the “right” school. Our College Counseling division at The Learning Consultants is built to bring clarity, structure, and strategy to every step of the journey.
We focus on three pillars of successful admissions:
-
Self-Discovery: Understanding a student’s strengths, interests, personality, and long-term goals.
-
Strategic Positioning: Crafting compelling applications, essays, and résumés that communicate each student’s unique value.
-
Smart School Selection: Balancing reach, match, and safety schools in a way that maximizes opportunities while reflecting financial and academic realities.
Families across Connecticut turn to The Learning Consultants because we combine deep admissions expertise, local educational insight, and personal mentorship that students find motivating rather than stressful. Our mission is simple: help every student find the college environment where they can thrive academically, socially, and personally.
