“Our” children are not ready for college or the real world
By Daryl CapuanoGeneral Education AdviceI am an optimist, a positive thinker, and the furthest thing from an alarmist.
But… I see something that reminds me of what I saw when I wrote my first book: Motivate Your Son.
At the time – 2012 – I pointed out that teen boy lack of motivation was an unreported epidemic.
The results a few years later: plummeting male underachievement.
Now… I’m seeing something else: a lack of readiness for college and the real world.
My evidence is anecdotal. In running The Learning Consultants, I have a practice and oversee our clients’ tutoring/counseling practices throughout Shoreline, CT and Fairfield, CT. These geographic areas are generally filled with highly educated parents who care about education.
Yet, I see the decline in math, reading, and writing abilities in my own practice and I hear from dozens of tutors the same.
The research is proving this point. Some part of the decline, of course, is due to the pandemic.
But not all.
College readiness is a big issue because of the enormous investment parents make and the enormous crossroads that teens are crossing.
The real world is a bigger issue.
Our career counseling practice has grown so much because so many young adults are struggling to find their career footing.
Some part deals with lack of direction.
However, some parts deal with the inability to do the work required by organizations.
Given the GLOBAL ECONOMY, this is an issue that will play out in challenging ways.
We can help your children get ready….
