Old Saybrook High School – SAT Time
By Daryl CapuanoGeneral Education AdviceThe Learning Consultants has had its central offices in Old Saybrook for over 20 years.
I have also had three children attend the Old Saybrook school system.
The good news: Old Saybrook is an amazing place to live. Part of the reason is that the vibe is laid-back.
The not-so-good news: The easy-going vibe leads to underachievement.
Old Saybrook students are often surprised when college admissions season seems to arrive out of nowhere. Between schoolwork, sports, and summer plans, there’s rarely a “perfect time” to start SAT prep — which is exactly why starting early works best.
The Early Advantage
At The Learning Consultants, we’ve watched Old Saybrook students who began preparation in the winter score 100–200 points higher than peers who waited until late spring. Why? Early prep reduces stress. It allows students to master the test calmly and to take the SAT in March or May — leaving senior fall open for applications and essays.
The Hidden Benefit: Confidence
Students who start now learn not only the content but also the psychology of testing. When they walk into the SAT knowing the format cold, anxiety plummets. We’ve seen otherwise average testers from Old Saybrook High School gain a sense of control that transforms performance.
Timing Is Everything
The PSAT was just administered. That means the skill gaps are visible and the motivation is current. Waiting until May or June usually means re-learning forgotten material and compressing preparation into an already busy schedule.
A Smarter Winter Plan
Our Winter SAT Intensive is designed exactly for this window — focused, efficient, and built for busy students who want big results without long-term burnout.
Old Saybrook families know that proactive steps in January save enormous stress later. The same holds true for the SAT.
Start early, stay calm, and achieve more.
