College …. and CAREER…. counseling

By College Counseling

I know that part of the reason The Learning Consultants’ college counseling has been so busy of late relates to our career counseling expertise.

Parents are not readily departing with hundreds of thousands of dollars anymore simply for their child to have a great college experience.

To be clear, I think the whole child-adult transition that is the American college experience is quite literally the best general transition in history (read up on boy-soldiers and girls-married to older guys in different villages for some perspective.)

But… I have been saying for years that career discussions should happen before college. This doesn’t mean the child is deciding anything, just that the child (young adult) begins the process of career direction earlier than in the past.  Simply put, earlier intervention is needed in today’s new world of work.

Years ago, I belonged to the World Future Society.  I kept pace with thought leaders who were predicting how the future would unfold.   While I left the organization once parenthood began – and the future of my children consumed my thoughts – I have always been interested in how work will evolve in the future.

Of late, I’ve been studying the metaverse.  For better… and possibly worse… Web 3.0 will be coming in the next few years.  My prediction is that much like most dramatic changes, the change will be far more gradual than technology enthusiasts believe but with far more impact than than the luddites (non-technologists think).

Your children have a GIANT OPPORTUNITY.   If they understand how they can position yourself for the metaverse they will be positioned to create their careers.

Imagine if you knew the Internet would be big before it was….

Connecticut is known as the land of steady habits.  Those who live here are here and not in Silcon Valley for a reason.
