The world is rapidly changing… our children need to get ready

By General Education Advice

We live in a relative bubble.  The Connecticut coast is mostly filled with upper-middle-class and affluent families.  Most came of age when upward mobility was common.  Most probably have done as well or better or at least pretty close to as well as their parents.   Most have not witnessed first hand downward mobility.  Downward mobility is now happening at an unprecedented rate for Connecticut young adults.

I know this from both research related to a potential follow up of my first book Motivate Your Son, which, unfortunately, predicted the current challenges and from my work with many young adults as they ponder college and enter the career world.

I should add that I’m a near-perpetually cheerful optimist!

But… I can’t ignore reality and I see what I see: students in ou area – and those in the Fairfield and Middlesex Counties Connecticut are among the most economically fortunate – are floundering.  Dramatically.  Given my work with students over the last 20 years, I have a distinct vantage point related to the mental health, practical ambition, and education skill level of students from our area (Guilford, Madison, Old Saybrook, Old Lyme, East Lyme, Essex etc.).

They need help.  We can help.
