High school juniors – now is the time to dig in.  We can help.

You’re at a critical point in your academic journey. The spring of junior year is an important time to start thinking about your future plans and what steps you need to take to achieve your goals. Here are some important tasks that you should consider completing during this time:

  1. Focus on Your Grades: Junior year grades are the most critical when it comes to college applications. Colleges and universities will take a close look at your grades, so it’s important to work hard to maintain or improve your GPA. If you’re struggling in a particular subject, don’t hesitate to ask for help from your teachers or tutors.
  2. Plan for Standardized Tests: Many colleges require either the SAT or ACT, so it’s important to start preparing for these exams as early as possible. Register for the exams, and plan to take them at least once during the spring of your junior year.
  3. Research Colleges: Take the time to research colleges and universities that interest you. Attend college fairs, visit campuses, and talk to current students to get a sense of what each school has to offer. Make a list of potential schools and start narrowing down your options based on factors such as location, academic programs, and campus culture.
  4. Build Your Extracurricular Activities: Extracurricular activities are an important part of your college application. If you haven’t already, consider joining clubs or organizations that align with your interests. Start thinking about leadership roles you can take on in these groups, as this will demonstrate your initiative and commitment.
  5. Start Drafting Your College Essay: Your college essay is an important part of your application, and it’s never too early to start working on it. Start brainstorming topics, and work on crafting a compelling essay that showcases your personality and strengths.
  6. Meet with Your School Counselor: Your school counselor is a valuable resource when it comes to college planning. Schedule a meeting with your counselor to discuss your plans, and ask for guidance on the college application process.
  7. Research Scholarships: College can be expensive, so it’s important to start looking for scholarships that you may qualify for. Check with your school’s guidance office, as well as national scholarship databases, to find opportunities that match your interests and qualifications.

Overall, the spring of junior year is a critical time for college planning. By focusing on these key tasks, you can set yourself up for success as you move forward with your academic and career goals. Remember to stay organized, focused, and proactive in your efforts, and don’t be afraid to ask for help along the way. Good luck!
